Will the real John Bennett Please Stand Up?

John Bennett is the CEO and major shareholder of the Bennett Company. If the Bennett incinerator is built then John Bennett stands to make a lot of money. It would be better than winning the jackpot in the Lottery. If the incinerator is defeated then John Bennett will lose a lot of money. The importing and burning of toxic waste provides a real opportunity for big profit. For more information on John Bennett's goals and motivation see documents that Bennett prepared for its shareholders. Available for viewing at the PCT office.

Are Real Environmentalists All Talk and No Action?

While John Bennett has been flogging his incinerator real environmentalists and engineers have been working hard to develop and demonstrate processes that rid the world of man made pollutants. They have designed and tested methods that don't produce dioxins and furans. These methods are being used now around the world to destroy PCBs, dioxins and other toxic threats to our health. You can learn more about these methods by reading Learning Not to Burn. This handbook is available in the PCT office or at the web site kodakstoxiccolors.org. Copies of this valuable handbook for citizens will be available soon at a public library near you and at local municipal offices.

Note: All incineration technology including Bennett's does produce dioxins and furans.

Are Dioxins and Furans Safe?

Dioxins and furans are known cancer-causing agents. Yes, dioxins are in cigarettes. A dioxin has been identified as the main cancer-causing agent in cigarettes. That's how we know that dioxins are a threat to your health. That's why your doctor and the Cancer Society advises you not to smoke. We now know that you can get cancer from living with a smoker through inhaling second hand smoke. An incinerator is like a gigantic chain smoker that the surrounding community is forced to live with. Once it is built and exhaling you have no control over what you have to breathe in. You can't nag it to quit smoking. You can't ask it to smoke outside so that it won't affect the children's health. If you live near an incinerator you become an involuntary second hand smoker.

Does Bennett have an "impeccable safety record"?

The St. Ambroise incinerator is the only incinerator that Bennett has owned and operated. The public record in Quebec contains evidence of numerous upsets and untreated bypass stack releases into the community from the St. Ambroise incinerator. The records show release times that exceeds Bennett's claims by 1400%. Copies of the records of releases can be viewed at the PCT office. (Public Concern Temiskaming -- 705 647 1533)
