Witmer to be Publicly Challenged Over Support for
International Incinerator
Plans
Environment Minister Elizabeth Witmer is in the
Temiskaming region on
Tuesday as part of her bid to become Ontario¹s
new premier.
A press conference will be held outside the location
of her Temiskaming
stop-off by residents opposed to a proposed
international toxic waste
incinerator for the region.
The MOE is presently assessing an application by
Bennett Environmental to use Temiskaming as the site for what will be
the largest PCB incinerator of its kind in Canada. The incinerator is
being built so Bennett can bid on
contaminated materials from across North America and
possibly the world.
A press conference is being held outside the location
of Witmer¹s
Temiskaming stop-off by residents opposed to the
MOE¹s willingness to turn Northeastern Ontario into a
³Sacrifice Zone² for NAFTA and international toxic materials.
Press Conference:
³Toxic Waste Flows to the Jurisdiction With the
Lowest Standards²
Location: Franchefco¹s Restaurant (Highway 11
just north of Wal-Mart at New Liskeard)
Time: 11:45 am
Hosted by: Public Concern Temiskaming
