New Liskeard Bennett Environmentals
plan to burn and dump
international hazardous waste in Northern Ontario
is being given
cautious support by Federal MP Benoit Serré.
According to an article in
the Northern Daily News, Serré says he is
waiting for the results of the
provincial EA before giving the project his full
support but he is
confident the proposal will be successful because
studies, paid for by
the company, have been positive.
"Ontario: Yours to Pollute"
Since 1995 10,000 violations of Ontario's wastewater
laws have occurred with
only 11 charges laid against polluting companies.
Violations have increased from 700 in 1995 to more
than 3,200 in 1999.
More than two thirds of polluting companies each year
are repeat offenders.
Lack of enforcement means there is now no deterrent to
polluting of the
environment by those who choose to do so.
